Activities Related to Climate Change

Goal : To co-operate in protecting the lives and property of the disaster affected people.
Target Population : Beneficiaries of all NUSA projects and the general public.

Introduction
Disaster management activities are a regular part of Nusa’s service. As Shariatpur district is a disaster prone area, NUSA’s Disaster Management Department is committed to disaster risk reduction and response throughout the year. So far, thousands of people have been affected in various ways due to floods, heavy rains, cider and other disasters in the area. Nusa has provided appropriate assistance to all these affected people. Relief materials, road construction, distribution of latrines and tube wells worth more than one million rupees were provided to the people affected by the catastrophic Padmanadi erosion and floods of 2004, 2008, 2008 and 2018-19.

A catastrophic tornado struck at around 7.30 am on 15 May 2018 in Khasbazar and its adjoining areas in Naopara and Charatra Unions under Naria Upazila of Shariatpur District. And all the food and goods of the house. Many were injured and 4 were seriously injured and  sent to various hospitals in Dhaka for medical treatment.After receiving the news  from the Naria Upazila Executive Officer through the Shariatpur Deputy  

Commissioner, other officials of the Upazila Administration, the Mayor of Naria Municipality and a group of NUSA workers came to the spot and saw the horror on the spot and assured help. Nusa’s 6 health inspectors and 5 staff provided immediate care and assistance to the victims, as well as compiling accurate lists.The next day, on 16 May 2017, NUSA distributed relief packages (rice-15 kg, pulses-2 kg, soybean-1 lt, salt-1 kg, soap-2) to 42 family-based affected families in the presence of Dr Khaled Shawkat Ali. Besides, satellite clinic services and medicines were provided at the spot with the help of a specialist doctor. Later, Nusa’s Vice Chair Dr. Khaled Shawkat Ali provided assistance to 42 families with 2  bundles of tin and Taka 2000 in cash.
